The Location

At IHS, we know how privileged we are!  The IHS campus is simply beautiful.  The ocean, the forest and the town are right outside our doors.  The campus is situated on approximately 13 hectares of beautiful park land and the school’s main buildings are a quick walk from the beach and yacht harbor.  Our location on the Sønderborg Bay provides students with the opportunity to sail, surf, canoe, kayak or even just a refresh themselves with a dip in the ocean. 

Sønderskoven, a forest located only 1 km away from the school, is a perfect place for classes in idrætscross, triathlon training, running or just relaxing walks.  If you’re looking to go into town, then you might as well walk since the school has access to a beach-side path that leads you directly into the center of town.  It only takes about 15 minutes to walk into town, where there are cozy cafés, a lively walking street and many exciting and original shops.

Sønderborg is considered a “young town” with many opportunities to further your education.  Many of IHS’s students are continuing their educations at schools such as EUC Syd, Syddansk Universitet, Sønderborg Handelsskole, Sygeplejeskolen and Sergentskolen.  Approximately 25% of the town’s inhabitants are under the age of 30, among the highest percentage in all of Danmark.  Sønderjylland is influenced by historic awareness, but it is also a lively and culturally developing area, like the rest of Europe.
