Competencies for life?

The Sports-highschool in Sonderborg (IHS) will give you excellent training. You can get both specific skills and experiences that will be very hard to find elsewhere.

The Autumn School is made up of 18 weeks and is divided into 2 periods. The Spring School consists of 24 weeks which are divided into 3 periods of action. 

Autumn
1. period: "Special subject", 9 weeks
Do you want to feel the wind in your hair? Check out the sailing or windsurfing-classes. Maybe you want to fine-tune your moves in showdance-lessons? Or become a star in beachvolley - we have the finest facilities in Scandinavia. These are just a few examples...

After these 8 weeks of skill perfection and training your skills will be put to the test on a one week special field trip where we go to La Santa Sport - Lanzarote, Spain.

2. period: "Main subject", 9 weeks
In 2. period you will have one main subject. Which covers 12 hours hours a week, where you enhance your skills, and possibly get a coaching-license. Choose between these sports: Aerobics, handball, volleyball, badminton, outdoor-sports etc.

Spring
1. period: "See and experience", 4 weeks
Try sports you've never experienced before. Climbing the heights, cool rhythm, various ballgames and water-activities are on the program for the first 4 weeks. Want to become a certified lifeguard? Or learn about communication, health, culture and the mechanisms behind sports? You'll be taking classes, having debates, and doing practical exercises - and having fun in the process!

2. period: "Main subject", 10 weeks
In 2. period you will have two main subjects. Each covers 8 hours a week, 16 combined, where you enhance your skills, and possibly get a coaching-license. Choose between these sports: Aerobics, fitness, football (soccer), handball, volleyball, badminton, outdoor-sports etc.

3. period: "Special subject", 10 weeks
Do you want to feel the wind in your hair? Check out the sailing or windsurfing-classes. Maybe you want to fine-tune your moves in showdance-lessons? Or become a star in beachvolley - we have the finest facilities in Scandinavia. These are just a few examples...

Besides these, sports like triahlon, beach-handball, kayaking etc. are ready for you to test.

Communication
Likewise, we will continue to work with topics in politics, philosophy and psychology etc. that you'll find inspiring. And you will dig into the Danish "way of life". Take the chance to advance your communication skills via debates, problem solving, exercises, discussions and dialogues. As additional subjects we can offer a broad range of topics, drama, art, music, dance etc.

Humour and friendship
Besides the daily classes, we aim to make you thrive and create exciting activities, events and parties. As we are a boarding school, responsibility and teamwork are essential.

No institution in Denmark comes close to our facilities and surroundings, and we work together with sports clubs where you can be active - if there is energy left! High-level-coaches are there to make your stay with us unforgettable and giving.

Trips
The first week in 2. period the whole school travels to Italy to ski - you can get an official license as a ski instructor. And other exciting trips are arranged regularly to form the icing on the cake.

International Class (IC)
IHS is a school with a lot of different nationalities. However the majority of our students are Danish. We urge all students to make a meaningful connection between these nationalities, even though it may be tricky because of cultural and language differences. We do not see these differences as a problem but rather as a challenge and as an advantage to create an inspiring environment.

Nevertheless you will experience differences between you and your fellow students. As said earlier the majority of our students are Danish. We urge you, as an international student, to make contact with other nationalities and especially the Danes. There will be occasions where it will be necessary for you to have a translation - for example at common gatherings, school meetings and at other times. Most of the Danish students will have good English skills, and will be able to help you.

Teachers and school staff will show consideration to you and will try to make sure that you get important information translated - both in classes and in general.
